Kaza hill station is located on the banks of the Spiti valley, at a height of 12,500 feet. This is the sub divisional headquarters of Spiti. It is one of the perfect places for trekking, affording a magnificent view of the valley. It is divided into tow areas, the old town and the new town. The new town includes some governmental buildings. The town has all modern facilities like s currency exchange, accommodation, guides, petrol and well connected roads etc.

About Kaza :

Kaza is a tiny hill station in Himachal Pradesh that attracts the tourists for its mild climate and sporting activities. Kaza is the administrative headquarters of the Spiti district and remains busy throughout the year. This is an excellent tourist spot for its spectacular scenery owing to the high mountain ranges surrounding it. The city has a climate similar to the cold deserts of Tibet and Ladakh in the Himalayan region.

Sight Seeing of Kaza :

  • Dhankar: Dhankar is an erstwhile capital of Spiti is a scenic village which is situated at an elevation of 3,870 m above the sea level in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is 25 km east of Kaza and 23 km from Tabo. The Dhankar Monastry which is 800 year old is the major center of attraction of Dhankar village.
  • Tabo: Situated at the height of 3,050 m and on the left bank of river Spiti not far from Sumdo, Tabo is a scenic place to visit. It is surrounded by high mountains with the major attraction of Tabo Gompa which has the priceless collection of manuscripts and thankas.
  • Darcha: Darcha is an ideal place for trekkers as it is situated at an altitude of 3,360 m above the sea level. Visitors can start their trekking expeditions from Darcha to Padem and then passing through the Shingola and Baralacha / Phirtsela. It is about 24 km from Keylong and offers the facilities of camping as well.
  • Kibber: Situated at a distance of 18 km from Kaza, Kibber has the distinction of being the highest village in the world connected by the motorable roads. It is also the highest inhabited village which has its own polling station during elections.

Climate of Kaza :

Spiti is known as cold desert and does not receive rainfall. In winter the temperature of the place can drop below freezing point, when heavy woolens are necessary. In summers the weather of Kaza remains pleasant when light woolens are advised.

The Kaza markets are interesting destinations for food and hopping lovers. The market includes number of bookstores, music stores to delight your leisure activity. Tibetan markets of Kaza offers many preferential buys for tourists. Local tweed caps, Metalwork, Shawls, Tibetan carpets and pullovers are some of the wide range of hopping items which are available here. Pickles, jams, squashes are some other favored buys for tourists in the Kaza market. Handmade shoes, Woolen and Pashmina shawls, woolen caps, wooden sticks made by local artisans of Kaza are also available in the market. The specialty of Tibetan market of Kaza is Tibetan jewellery and trinkets.

By Air: Shimla and Kullu are the nearest airports to Kaza.
By Rail: Shimla and Pathankot are the nearest railheads to Kaza.
Road: National Highway No.21 connects Manali to Lahaul Spiti. There are frequent bus and taxi services from Manali and Shimla.
