About Assam State Museum, Guwahati :
The Assam State Museum was first opened to the public in 1940. Initialy it was established as a non-Governmental structure but later on The museum was taken over by the State Government of Assam. It is located in the eastern part of the Guwahati city-centre near Dighalipukhuri tank. The State museum is extremly famous for its amazing anthology antiques of the prehistoric times.

The Museum consists of a huge collection of a wide variety of items showing the rich cultural legacy of Assam as well northest India. For this, Academicians termed the state museum as Anthropological Paradise. The State museum even houses a reference library. Many other collection includes stone and copper plate inscriptions from the 5th century, terracotta pieces and costumes with a 12th century sculpture of ‘Surya’.
