The Bhairabi Temple is situated in the outskirts of Tezpur, Assam. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and the backdrop of the temple provides a view of the Kalia Bhomora Setu, which has been built across the Brahmaputra River. The local people of the place also refer to this temple as Bhairabi Devalaya and Maithan. According to legends, Usha, who was the daughter of Asura King Banasura, came regularly to this temple for worshipping Goddess Durga. The sacrificing offerings at this temple include bulls and goats.

Its maintenance and management are under the supervision of the District Deputy Commissioner. The way to reach the temple goes through a long path of staircase. Along this way there are small shops that provide items like ghee lamps, incense sticks, fruits, sweets, etc. The famous Bamuni Hills also lies at a few km from this temple.

Best time to visit Tezpur :

The city of Tezpur has a monsoon type climate and the conditions vary significantly according to the seasons. Summers are warm and temperatures are high during the peak period. It might be difficult to visit the place during the summer season. The place gets excessive rainfall during the monsoon season and the region is fresh and lush green during this season. Winters are cold and temperatures can be in single digits during this period.

The summer season starts in the month of March and extends till the end of June. Temperatures range from a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius and can rise to a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius. The month of May constitutes the peak summer period and light cotton wear is ideal for this time.

The monsoon season is during the months from June to September. The place gets rainfall during these months from the South West Monsoon and the place is predominantly wet, which makes travelling difficult during this period. The post monsoon months of October and November are mild and temperatures are much lower.

The winter season is during the months from December to February. Temperatures range from a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius.
