About Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam :

Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is located along the northern banks of Brahmaputra, in the district of Sonitpur, Assam. The sanctuary covers an area of around 44.06sq.kms and abounds in natural vegetation cover. It is an ideal place for all those who want to spend their time far away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. The beautiful hills of the Himalaya mountain ranges along with the fast flowing water of the Brahmaputra river lends the place an enchanting ambience.

Wildlife at Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary :

The place is very rich in natural vegetation cover and comprises of various species of plants & trees that are hard to find somewhere else. The sanctuary also offers shelters to a wide array of animals like the Great Indian One horned Rhinoceros, Wild Boar, Civet Cat, Asiatic Buffalo, Barking Deer, Leopard Cat, Otter and many more. One can also find here the famous Bengal Florican and Ferruginous Duck along with several other migratory birds.

Biodiversity of the Sanctuary :

Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its exquisite flora and fauna and is famous for Bengal Florican migratory bird.

Flora
Bura Chapori sanctuary is situated at the alluvial flood plains of central Assam. The surroundings of the sanctuary comprise alluvial grassland and semi evergreen forests. The sanctuary has very good natural vegetation and wetland. There are many species of trees and medicinal plants in the sanctuary. Trees like simul, korai, ajar and hijal etc are found in the area.

Fauna
Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a large variety of wildlife, birdlife and reptiles. The great Indian one horned rhino, otter, civet cat, leopard cat, Asiatic buffalo, wild boar and barking deer are found here.

Avifauna
The sanctuary is considered a paradise for innumerous migratory birds. It is famous for Bengal Florican. There are also other varieties of migratory birds in the sanctuary such as ferruginous duck, white eyed pochard, large whistling teal and spat bill etc.

Climate in the Sanctuary :

The climate of Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is moderate. The area experiences high humidity. During monsoon the sanctuary experiences heavy rainfall.

Accommodation in Sonitpur District would not be a problem for you. How to reach the park?

By rail: The nearest railhead is Rangapara. It is at a distance of 60 km from Bhalukpong in Sonitpur district and 178 km from Guawahati, the state capital.

By air: The nearest airport is at Saloni at a distance of 10 km from Tezpur.

By road: The park area is connected with the major cities in Assam by Tezpur. Tezpur is the headquarters of Sonitpur District. It is connected with the important cities in Assam by road.
