Chindi in Himachal Pradesh

Chindi is around 97 km from Shimla and accessible via Dhalli and Naldehra. This small town in Himachal Pradesh is part of the Karsog Valley and dotted with large expanse of apple orchards. The deodar and pine woods here offer picturesque views and a lovely setting for tourists to enjoy absolute tranquility.

About Chindi :

Chindi of Shimla is located in the Karsog valley. Shimla’s Chindi is amidst enormous orchards of apples and dense hilly woods of deodars and pines. It is one of the most lovely places of Himachal Pradesh. For a weekend getaway from the monotonous daily routine life, Chindi is an ideal destination that provides a welcome break. Chindi being a very small hilly area, is not that way visited by the tourists but yet the place has got its own charm and splendor. The sight of the rambling hills together with the lush green forests and valleys is really something mentionworthy. Chindi’s real claim to fame in India at large lies at the top of the hill above the village; the Chindi rest house.The house itself looks something like a miniature Georgian country manor house, with a large, well kept garden and a serene view, looking out as it does over miles of gently rolling hills.

Places to see in Chindi :

Karsog Valley – Karsog Valley is well known for its green carpet of meadows, ancient temples, excellent weather and the pollution-free environment. It is a subdivision of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh and noted attractions here include Mamleshwar Mahadev temple, Mahunag Temple and Kamaksha Devi Temple.

Shikari Devi Temple – This temple in Himachal Pradesh is dedicated to Shikari Devi in the form of a stone idol. Tourists access this shrine via trekking from Chindi town. It is one of the main attractions of the Karsog Valley and also accessible from Janjheli. According to ancient legends, hunters from this valley were believed to have worshipped Shikari Mata as their principal deity but they never covered the roof of the shrine. The stone idol sits in the same way until now.

Kamaksha Devi Temple – This is a shakthi peeth dedicated to Goddess Parvati and it is believed to be the site where the tongue of Goddess Durga fell. Thousands of Hindu devotees throng this place during Shivaratri.

Prashar Lake – From Chindi you can also drive to Prashar Lake that is 40 km away from Mandi. It is believed that this was the place where sage Prashar meditated. There is a pagoda style temple on the banks of this lake built in the 14th century by Raja Ban Sen.

How to Reach Chindi :

By Road: From New Delhi take NH-1 reach Chandigarh, which is 204 km from Chindi. Then take route to Shimla. From Shimla take the highway 13 cross Dhalli, Suni, Kalangar and reach Chindi

By Rail : Nearest Railway Station is Shimla – 87 Km

By Air: Nearest Airport to Chindi is in Shimla at Jubbar-Hatti. It is 110 Km away from Chindi
