Government Aquarium of Bangalore gives tourist the relief from usual historical monuments in the city of Bangalore. The blue water and the various kinds of marine life will captivate tourist’s attention.

About Aquarium of Bangalore :

The aquarium is situated at the entrance of Cubbon Park. . The aquarium is placed in an octagonal-shaped building .It is the second largest aquarium in the country having a large variety of aquatic life. It exhibits the largest number of indigenous and exotic fish, also cultivable and ornamental kind. The aquarium comes directly under the State Government’s Department of Fisheries. The aquarium which is located on Kasturba Road was inaugurated in 1983.

Building :

The aquarium is distributed in three floors. These three floors have a display of both edible and ornamental fish. The ground floor houses the office and laboratory. One can surely enjoy at the little outlet for fish feed, where the fishes can be fed by the visitors. The first floor has 14 big tanks where the larger cultivable varieties of fish are displayed. It is done to aware the visitors of our natural resource and marine life.

The second floor has two rows of tanks; the upper row has 23 medium sized tanks while the lower row consists of 46 small tanks. The tanks are constructed in such away that helps to display the purely ornamental fishes closely. It is really wonderful to see the multi -colored fishes swimming along lazily and staring at the onlookers surprisingly. The aquarium authority has taken much care to create a similar habitat for the fishes so that they feel comfortable. The aquarium is open throughout the week from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs.

Fish :

The Aquarium of Bangalore has a wide variety of aquatic life. It has on display the largest number of cultivable as well as ornamental pet fish. However, the fish housed in the aquarium are only freshwater fish, both indigenous and exotic. The fish seen at the aquarium include angel fish, glow light tetra, red tail shark, Siamese fighters, catla, Indian tiger barb, mahseer, freshwater prawns, blue gourami, gold fish, etc.
