About Veli Tourist Village :

The Veli Tourist, in God’s own country, is all set to make a strong impression in the world tourist map. Veli tourist village is eight kilometers from the city of Thiruvananthapuram. This tourist village is between the Veli lagoon and the Arabian Sea. The lagoon here is separated from the sea by a narrow sand bar.

Veli tourist village is a landscaped picnic spot. Various facilities are available in this Veli tourist village. This includes water sports in the lagoon and an 18-acre waterfront park with a floating bridge that connects the village to the beach. Kerala tourism has plans of setting up a Rs. 1 crore three-star floating restaurant. It includes introduction of new boats and water scooters and also the renovation of the garden and the boat house. This all new facelift of the Veli tourist village is primarily for attracting the high spending foreign tourists.

The two storied floating restaurant, which is still under construction, is being built on the traditional “nalukettu” style. It can accommodate 150 diners at a time. The floating restaurant is being constructed out of wood to overcome corrosion. For the roof, light weight and anti rust material imported from U.S. is being used. In order to check pollution of the lake a treatment plant is being set up.

This floating restaurant is that it has separate kitchen and service sections. The most striking feature of this restaurant is that it is constructed on a floating platform, which can be easily be tugged to any place in the lake. This floating restaurant would cater to all palates from traditional Indian to Chinese to Continental. The structure of this restaurant had already been completed and the work of adding the finishing touches is on. The garden is also being renovated to give a ultimate face lift to the restaurant and hence the Veli tourist village.
